The Daily Benefit is the maximum amount of money payable to you each day for the care that you receive at a Nursing Home, Assisted Living Apartment, or for Home Health Care (care in your own home).
For example, if your care happens to cost $230 per day, and the daily benefit you chose was $150, your Long Term Care insurance (LTCi) can only pay up to $150. You would be responsible to pay the difference of $80 per day.
If, on the other hand, your Daily Benefit was $230 per day, and your cost of care was only $150 on a given day, your LTCi would pay up to $150 for that day, and the unused amount of $80 would remain in your "benefit pool", ready to be used in the future.
How much Daily Benefit is right for you? That depends on the "Cost Of Care In Your Area", and how much of that cost you want your LTCi to pay. Most people purchase between $150 to $300 per day, but you can choose any amount between $50 to $400 per day, in $10 multiples.
NOTE: To prevent confusion, choose your Daily Benefit based on today's cost of care. The future cost of care can be handled by your choice of INFLATION Benefit!
