What services are covered by LTC insurance?

In general, comprehensive LTC insurance (LTCi) policies cover:

  • Care in Your Home:  Includes skilled services from a professional, like a nurse or therapist, as well as nurses aides to help with eating, dressing, bathing, walking, toileting, continence, transferring, managing medications, etc.
  • Care in Your Community:  Includes "Adult Day Care Centers" which provide supervised daily activities and meals/snacks, as well as "Hospice Facilities" which provide end-of-life care for you and support for your family.
  • Facility Care:  Includes "Assisted Living Facilities" which are apartments that provide a secure, home-like enviornment where individuals and couples can live independently while receiving personal assistance, meals, transportation services, etc.  The coverage also includes "Nursing Homes" for people who need skilled and custodial care around-the-clock.
  • Respite Care Benefits:  Provides short-term care (generally 21-30 days per calendar year) to allow your primary caregiver, who may be a family member or friend, to take a break.
