Can my coverage be cancelled?

The insurance company cannot cancel your policy unless you stop paying the premiums.  That's because today's modern LTC policies must be "guaranteed renewable", meaning the insurance company is required to renew your policy every year, regardless of how old or how sick you may become--an important safeguard for policyholders.

There were some insurers that sold "optionally renewable" (you could be dropped for any reason!) LTC policies in the 1980's and early 1990's, but this type of policy was prohibited by most states by the mid 90's to protect policyholders, and is no longer offered for sale.

Of course, you (the policyholder) may decide to discontinue your coverage and stop paying premiums anytime you wish.
